The Lovers

Choices are the point of an angle. Paths can take us to very different end. And The Lovers card is about this choice.

The biggest figure in the card is the angel. With a raging hair. This is the arch-angel Raphael. His name has its roots in healing. In the former cards we saw duality. The columns of The High Priestess. And again in The Hierophant. But now there are two people. These two pillars are us. They are our pieces. And the angel is the whole. True healing is about being whole.

The figures on the card are man and woman. Adam and Eve, who faced a choice. To obey or disobey God. They choose to eat the fruit. The tree can be seen behind Eve. Both God and the snake were correct. Eating the fruit brought death. But it also gave them awareness. They now knew what was good and bad. They were kicked out of Eden. But they had never known the paradise. Because all they knew was perfection. Eve was told she would suffer birth pains. And we all suffer those pains. We give birth to ourselves. We join the male and the female inside. And we are born through a painful process. But also one full of joy and growth.

The figures stand naked before the angel and each other. This is a boldness. You cannot enter a healing space unless you are bold. Unless you are open.

Behind the couple is a mountain. Like the tower of Babel it reaches into the sky. This is about how high we can go when we found love. Our oneness both inside and outside.

But this card is about choice. Because we have to choose. Love is a choice. Adam and Eve could not love paradise, because they didn’t choose to be in Eden. It wasn’t until they were removed, they could choose to return. You can’t love a person, if you haven’t chosen the person. If you feel stuck with someone. You will never love them. Even an arranged marriage can be loving. If the partners find a way to make it a choice to be with each other. If we cling to people in fear. Or if we feel we have no other options. This isn’t love.

Adam is looking at Eve. And Eve is looking at the angel. On one level this is about different choices. Adam is choosing to focus on the beauty of this world. Eve is looking at the beauty of the next. If we think about the choices we make every day in life. We can ask ourselves. Are we looking towards the beauty of this world. Or the beauty of the next. The beauty of this world is power and money. In the next world it is only love.

But Adam also represents the conscious mind. It looks to the unconscious – less conscious mind. From it, the conscious mind takes it cues. But the un-conscious or less conscious mind looks to God. Love can enter our passive mind because it is more open. It doesn’t push its will. It listens to the still small voice. The voice of the angel. The voice of healing.

The Lovers is card six. We have met up with a lot of guides. This is the point where what we have learned needs to come back. The power from The Magician. From The High Priestess a deep wisdom. And searching for growth from The Empress. Also an understanding of cycles. The Emperor taught us about being strong. Taking the seat of power in our own lives. But listening to the heart. And the Hierophant showed us tradition. Many have come before us. And we can learn from their paths. With everything we have seen, if we listen and act correctly. We will be on the right path.

The next card in the journey is The Chariot. We may make one choice over the other. But the energy of both go with us. And we need to hold on to both energies. We need to hold the reins and guide them towards a single goal. They are there to serve our dream.

What this card is telling you is a choice is coming. Or maybe you are facing a choice already. Take a moment to reflect with this choice. Understand the point on the map where you are with the choice. And the path of each side of the angle. You must choose the path you want to take for the long term. This is an important choice. Think about what you value. Go back if you must to talk to the priestess, empress, emperor. Or find these people in your own life to give you advice. But when you make a choice. Make a clear choice and stick to it with all your heart.

Above the angel is the sun. Think about how loyal the sun has been all these years. You must find a way to be this loyal to yourself.

Six of Wands

We have come home to rest. The six of wands shows victory. We ride in the place of honor. The crowds rally around. This is in the tradition of Ancient Rome. Where war heroes were honored with a parade. We are the champion.

Six is a card about return. This success didn’t come in a day. The battle may have been won in day. But it took years for us to be ready. We worked hard. Put our hearts and soul into our passion. The battle only lasted a day. But the preparation for the battle took a life time.

Most recently we had the five of wands. This card gave us the moment to change our focus. Among many on the field of battle our role was clear. In the card four figures hold wands. And one wand stands on its own. This one is un-seen by the figures on the card. The leadership role in our lives waits for us. If we do not step in with a vision, no one will. The figures in the battle are in chaos. Like our life when we wait for someone else to guide it. We took charge, or we wouldn’t be here today.

The figure on the six of wands sits upright. They know they are successful. Their eyes are not on the crowd. But set on where they are going. They see the road ahead. With a strong focus on their passions. They know more battles lay in their future. But they have accepted the honor. A wreath sits a top their wand. They are aware of the crowd cheering them on, and gain courage from them.

The figure wears red. This reflects a being consumed with passion. But also in the best of cases a person of heart. If our passions are guided by our hearts the path is true. But when we listen to other voices we get lost. If we stop and listen to the voices of the crowd. We can lose our focus. But if we rush past the crowd we lost our courage. The word courage comes from old French and Latin. It’s root is in the word for heart. Though we battle alone. Our heart gains strength from a connection with others.

In the next card we return to battle. We face the odds alone. But we know we are not alone. The crowd is still with us in spirit. Our family and our friends are there in the battle. The biggest battles of our lives we must fight ourselves. And it is easy to feel alone at these times. But we are not.

It is interesting how there is also movement in the six of swords. But this movement is different. In that card we go alone into the unknown. Here we face the unknown with a community. It is important to know we don’t always need people to tell us we are right. At times we need to be our own guide and take a path others advise against.

This card is telling us to rest for a moment. Don’t take your eye off your goal. But spend time with friends. Take some time to reconnect with the community. You have come from a great struggle. And another great struggle waits in the future. Accept the support and love of those around you now. You will need it in the times to come.

Check in with your heart. Are you being guided true on your path. The figure in the card is focused. The path is clear. Is your path clear? Do you know what your passion is and why you fight? Make sure you do.

This card may also be a warning. Don’t listen to the voices of the crowd. Even those who love you can mislead you. Listen to your own voice. Also a warning to keep focused. Even while we step away from our struggles, focus. There is one truth. Love.

Six of Swords

Six of Swords.

In the picture a person is riding in a boat. Along with him are six swords.

The swords are cards of the mind and ideas. But often they are cards of conflict as well. There is a conflict in this card.

Sixes are often about a return. The six of cups is a return of emotional energy. And the six of pentacles a return on material investments. The six of swords is a return of ideas.

Maybe this is Jonah. Setting sail from a land where his preaching was rejected. He is taking his lessons to another shore. Maybe we need to learn to understand when people are not accepting the ideas we are sharing. And accept the fact and move on.

We cannon see the person in this card. They are not looking back. Those who are behind him are not his focus. The focus is on the horizon.

While one town has pushed him and his ideas on. But¬†another is just over the horizon. In the card before this, the five of swords there was a battle. And the person in the card won the battle. But winning the battle changed little. It didn’t bring the success.¬†the respect or the change expected. This person is moving towards the seven of swords.

In the seven of swords the journey continues and ideas are left behind. Life is as much about unlearning sometimes as it is learning.

But in the six of swords we are missionaries for our believes. We are sharing the truths we have discovered with the world. And while this often means travel. It doesn’t always.

It is striking the journey is across water. Our emotions connect us to each other. Even the expressions of our mind, need emotion. We need to related to others on an emotional level. Then we can share on a mental level.

This card is teaching us to share our truths. But to do so wisely. Understanding there are those who won’t listen. They are those who won’t agree. And there are those for whom it won’t relate. Further it just want be true for many others.

The ultimate journey of knowledge is a solo adventure. We are alone. The truth we have to discover is ours alone.

On the horizon of the card is mountains. You cannot see details. But something out there is waiting. There is something new for our adventurer. And the future holds something for us as well.
